PROJECTS:
MCA Malawi II focuses on strategic areas that are key for Malawi’s development, to transform the transportation and land sectors, ultimately benefiting over 5 million people.
A. TRANSPORT PROJECT
The Accelerated Growth Corridor (AGC)
Through the Compact’s AGC Project, over 300 kilometers of roads will be upgraded across the Northern, Central, and Eastern Malawi, to help reduce transport barriers between farms and markets.
The project will also address the backlog of periodic road maintenance and unpaved community access routes.
There are four main Corridor Roads to be upgraded under the project:
- Mkanda – Linga 88.0 km
- Chileka – Likuni 53.2 km
- Chamtulo – Mkutumula 79.0 km
- Chikwawa-Euthini 67.0 km
The road upgrades not only improve transportation sector in Malawi but also encourage competitiveness and choices for agricultural businesses. All these improvements will facilitate a greater flow of agricultural products from farmgate to regional and export markets.

This is a policy and institutional reform activity to help transform land governance institutions to operate efficiently and effectively.
Within the Land Project, the Compact aims to modernize land-based revenue systems, significantly boosting resources for essential services.
This modernization effort will be implemented across the city councils of Lilongwe, Blantyre, Zomba, and Mzuzu.
